This cozy, unpretentious spot on 933 S La Brea Ave invites locals and visitors alike to savor traditional Salvadoran flavors crafted from fresh, quality ingredients.
As you step inside, the intimate setting immediately welcomes you with warmth and simplicity—perfect for a casual bite or takeout. With only a handful of tables, many customers opt for phone orders to enjoy their meals on the go, a testament to the restaurant’s growing popularity and the unmistakable allure of its dishes.
The star of the menu is undoubtedly the pupusa, the quintessential Salvadoran stuffed corn tortilla. At Acajutla, pupusas come beautifully handmade, crafted with care, and cooked to a delightful golden crust that gives way to savory fillings. Options range from traditional cheese and refried beans to unique varieties such as spinach pupusas, satisfying both traditionalists and those seeking a subtle twist. Customer Rodica “Rachel” Carroll raves that these are the “best pupusas I ever had,” praising their freshness and perfect preparation time.
Beyond pupusas, the menu offers an array of comforting Salvadoran classics. Enjoy the vibrant Salpicon, a zesty shredded beef salad bursting with fresh herbs and citrus notes, or indulge in hearty sides like Frijoles con Queso (beans with cheese) that balance creaminess and earthiness. The Pechuga a La Plancha, a simply grilled chicken breast, embodies the flawless execution of simple ingredients seasoned to enhance their natural flavors.
Breakfast lovers will appreciate the authentic Desayunos options—like the "Típico #2," which pairs a handmade pupusa with savory chorizo, rice and beans (casamiento), fried plantains, and cheese, creating a satisfying and soulful morning meal. For added comfort, pair your dish with a cool 16 oz Horchata Rice Drink, a sweet and creamy beverage that refreshes and complements the meal beautifully.
Regulars praise the restaurant’s attention to hygiene and friendly service. The atmosphere, though modest and intimate with only a few tables, mirrors the warmth and care put into every dish. The place is often bustling with customers grabbing pupusas, tamales de pollo, and side dishes like plátanos con crema y frijoles, making it a hidden gem in the neighborhood. Reviewer "rebecca burciaga" even calls it “a little hole in the wall gem” and appreciates the genuine Salvadoran experience it provides.

A colleague from El Salvador recommended this place. & this are the best papusas I ever had. Made fresh, it takes like 15 minutes. But its totally worth it They even have papusas with spinach. & of course the traditional flavors. You can order over the phone, & save time at pick up. Very clean, friendly, polite service.
Delicious popusas, and the empanadas de platano are the best
